The tragic suicide of a young woman doctor has shocked the nation. As police probes her suicide note, her allegations against her husband merit serious attention by the society at large. Time is ripe to rewrite the matrimony rule book. To begin with throw out the maxim that marriages are made in heaven and solemnized on earth. It is about life of two individuals. And if the only exit clause available is suicide this means something is fundamentally wrong. Parents need to invest time and energy in going beyond seeking socio-economic compatibility of couples. To make marriages work, it is time to break the taboo. Check for health compatibility of the couple before the knot is tied. Uninhibited articulation of sexual history and sexual preferences must predate the check. Life is too precious to be divorced for a bad marriage!
