Winning Days, Winning Ways!

This day 32 years ago India became a first time world champion. The underdog Indian XI rose to the opportunity to stun the mighty West Indies with a spirited team performance. Be it the Balwinder Sandhu in-swinger that baffled Gordon Greenidge or the acrobatic catch by Kapil Dev to dismiss Viv Richards, it was display of outstanding performance by almost everybody in the team. Undoubtedly, cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties, but the state of affairs in Indian cricket today is dismal. It is not about losing a series but about unwillingness to win. The leadership team is washing the dirty linen in public. Brushing aside the open rift would tantamount to further demoralising a billion plus cricket fans. BCCI can’t be trusted. It is for Sachin, Sourav and Laxman to take charge and set the house in order.
