Facebook’s date with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to the United States has come as a robust recognition of government’s resolve to connect with new age business globally. India is set to be the new Facebook capital. There is an obvious pull factor at play. The same unfortunately does not hold true for the manufacturing sector. India’s ranking fell further by two levels in 2015 World Bank Ease of Doing Business study. Modi government has made all the right noises but the ground level situation remains grim. There are some bright spots. Gujarat, AP, and Jharkhand are three toppers in the latest report on ‘Assessment of state implementation of business reforms’ conducted by the government in assistance from the World Bank and top industry associations.Learning from these top performing states has to be replicated without politics playing spoilsport.
