You are a slave of the words you allow to slip out and a master of those you retain. If only our politicians paid attention to this age old saying the polity would witness much less strife. Most often politicians speak to serve either their individual constituencies or to push a collective agenda. But there is a thin line between inviting a needless controversy and scoring a brownie point. In his quest for power Narendra Modi redefined the art of political communication. His singular focus on development even at times steering clear of stated party agenda presented hope for millions who voted in his favour. His one slogan ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ resonated globally as the most potent symbol of growth and equality. Today, sadly, we are back to square one. The development agenda has clearly taken a back seat.
